Yo, Momma . . . March 2005

March is one of those strange months, weather-wise, in Atlanta.  One day it's warm and sunny; the next it's raining and cold.  Hmmm . . . kinda reminds me of parenting!  You never know, when you wake up in the morning, what kind of day it's going to be.  Will it be one of those days where everything just clicks?  Where naptime happens right on schedule and mealtimes are uneventful?  Or will it be a day filled with conflict and unpredictability?  That's what makes parenting such an adventure!  So, sit back, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride!

The March of Dimes WalkAmerica will take place on April 30th in Atlanta this year.  If you'd like to walk as a member of the Fit For 2 Maternity Team, please register online at www.walkamerica.org and indicate that you will be walking with the Fit For 2 team.  If you will NOT be able to walk on April 30th but would still like to be involved, we can use lots of able minds and bodies!  Just email me at lisa@fitfor2.com and let me know how you'd like to help.  We'll be selling pink and blue tie-dyed wristbands to raise money for our team.  To purchase one or more, please email me at lisa@fitfor2.com.  You can also just make a monetary donation to our Maternity Team at www.walkamerica.org/fitfor2.

**TIP OF THE MONTH  It's never too early to learn the benefits of staying physically active!  If you have an infant, wear him/her in a sling or front carrier as you move through your day.  Let your baby get used to the feeling of movement and activity.  Teach your baby, from birth onward, about the importance of staying active by modeling active behaviors yourself.

If you have a toddler, get that kid moving!  Dance together, teach him/her how to play hopscotch and 2-square, set up an obstacle course using his/her toys in your living room and race each other through it.  Model physical activity so it becomes a natural part of your child's life.  

If you have a school-age child, find out what types of physical activity are available to your child during the school day.  Does your school offer daily Physical Education (PE) classes?  What about daily recess time?  Get involved to make sure your school is teaching healthy behaviors in addition to reading, writing, and arithmetic!

You are your child's best teacher and best advocate  and our children take every opportunity to model our behaviors  so be sure you're setting (and living) the best example!
